Nintendo Wii Games Improve Motor Function in Stroke Survivors
Without having much interest in gaming, I clicked on this medical report curiously and doubtfully. After reading through it, I have to say it's really innovative to implement Wii to stroke patients.
Some notable findings:
Stroke patients in the Wii intervention were able to perform a task 7 seconds faster than those receiving Recreational Therapy (playing card games, playing block stacking game, and stamping a card).
And a 1- or 2-second difference is considered to be clinically meaningful.
Patients in the Wii group also had a higher mean grip strength compared with patients in the RT group (22 ± 10 kg vs 19 ± 15 kg).
And of course patients have more fun with Wii games.
Have to say, it's the "Great Idea" of linking Wii games with stroke in clinical study that amazed me. Of course, this report is not considered an advertisement, though it did achieve that purpose.
